Save Our Cat Louie

Please consider donating to help save our cat, Louie. We adopted Louie in October of 2019 when he was three years old from The Woods Humane Society in San Luis Obispo, CA, and he's been a loved member of our family ever since. We have cherished each moment we have been able to spend with Louie, especially after the recent events that have occurred.

Unfortunately, on July 26, Louie became "blocked" and could not urinate, a life-threatening situation for cats. After spending a long night in the emergency hospital and paying a large medical bill, we were able to bring Louie home and begin his road to recovery. Louie seemed to be doing better with the help of medication, a new prescription food diet, and lots of love and attention.

We were hopeful that Louie would continue to be healthy and happy until he became blocked again on September 14. We immediately rushed him to the vet and paid an even larger medical bill than the last time to have him unblocked again.

I am writing this on Thursday, September 14. The past 24 hours have been challenging and emotional, as we were informed that to save Louie's life, he needs to undergo a surgery called Perineal Urethrostomy. We love Louie and want to do everything we can to keep him happy and healthy in our home for years to come. However, right before Louie became sick, we made a big move across California. Shane took an unpaid month while transitioning between jobs. Meghan had to take two unpaid months while waiting to start her new elementary teaching position. Unfortunately, elementary school teachers cannot choose their "end date" and "start date", so taking two unpaid months was the result of moving and switching districts. She is also a student, currently in graduate school, pursuing her master's in education. This is already a financially difficult time for us. Additionally, we have now spent thousands of dollars on Louie's vet bills, medications, special food, and additional litter boxes and supplies to keep him as happy and healthy as possible after the initial blockage. We do not want to accept it, but we are out of funds to continue giving Louie the treatment he needs on our own. If we move forward, the exact medical bill prices are unknown at this time; it could be anywhere from $3,500 to $7,000. This would be on top of the thousands we have already paid to have him unblocked twice.

With support, we hope to keep Louie unblocked and get him in for surgery on Monday, September 19. The next few days are critical. We were able to bring Louie home on Thursday, September 15, and are closely watching him and spending all of our time and attention on him until we make the next big decision.

The surgery's success rate is good; most cats do not experience another blockage after undergoing it. We believe Louie, who has always been a happy and healthy boy before this, will live for many more years if we can find a way to make this surgery happen financially.

Thank you for your time and consideration in donating to help save our boy's life. We will post updates on how he is doing and the exact medical bill prices when we know more.
