Over the winter several bunnies began showing up in my cousin, Anna's, neighborhood. These bunnies were not a wild breed, but rather domestic breeds, a mix of Lion Head and Rex rabbits. Anna contacted several neighbors about the bunnies, the bunnies did not belong to anyone. Several neighbors were upset about the bunnies eating their gardens, and destroying their yards. Further, the bunnies were starting to be chased by dogs in the neighborhood, and several cars had near misses with these bunnies. One bunny was caught by a dog and had its nose bitten off.
Anna and some neighbors decided to begin to live trip the bunnies and find homes for them. The first bunny caught was the injured rabbit, who they named Scar. Scar needed extensive vet treatment.
Ultimately, 5 babies and three adults were caught. About 10 days after one of the adult females, Tawny, was caught, she dropped a litter of 5 more babies, to make the grand total of bunnies living at Anna's home 13.
Anna has contacted every animal rescue and shelter in the state of Utah, everywhere is booked until mid-September. Anna has listed the bunnies on KSL with no interest from the public, as well as on a neighborhood app.
Nation-wide shelters are seeing a rise in unwanted pets, and shelters are stretched thin. These bunnies need homes, and Anna cannot provide the care, food, and medical necessities that these bunnies will need before September when they can taken in by the Animal shelter.
These bunnies need vaccinations for RHD, mite treatments, and need to be spayed and neutered to prevent 1) more unwanted rabbits from being produced, and 2) protection from disease; un-spayed female rabbits can have issues with uterine cancer, UTIs, etc.
Anna has also had to construct new rabbit enclosures in her home and back yard to separate males and females, until the rabbits can be spayed and neutered.
Each rabbit's medical treatment with vaccines, and spay/neuter costs runs about $500. Please consider donating to Anna to help her feed, care for, provide proper medical treatment, etc. for these bunnies who need care for several more months before Anna can receive help from a local animal shelter. Anna has solicited the help of a great vet who is willing and ready to help and offer "bulk" pricing for spays and neuters, but the supplies and time and meds are still expensive even with the help of this amazing vet.
Your donation will help keep these sweet rabbits happy and healthy. Thank you for your time and consideration.
