Save our Breezy Boy

Donation protected
Breezy is our 15month old puppy. He is the most beautiful dog both inside and out. He absolute loves life and has so much more to experience and love to give. He makes everyone that sees him smile, he is great with every kind of person whether that be men, women, children and other animals. The most perfect boy you could ever meet.

On the 17th July, Breezy was taken to the park for his evening walk. As always he was running around, playing with other dogs and exploring the park, its bushes and wider wildlife. We believe that on this day Breezy was bitten by either a spider or snake , however in true breezy style this didn’t phase him and therefore we did not notice this had happened.
Monday morning we noticed some swelling had come up on his neck. We immediately phoned our vets and got him an appointment. As breezy likes to play rough and tumble and explore the world to its fullest, ourselves and the vet believed it was some brusing that had caused the skin to swell. They decided to give him some anti-inflammatory/pain killers and booked us for an appointment the next day if he was no better in himself.

Tueaday came along and Breezy was back to his usual happy, loving playful self. The swelling was still present, however Breezy was back eating and drinking as he usually would. We phoned the vet, explained how he was and decided the appintment was no longer needed.
Wednesday I was at work and Breezy was at home with my mum. She phoned me around lunch time and said Breezy is very quiet and not really himself, however he was still eating and drinking normally. around 1630 we noticed that the swelling had spread further round his neck and down to his chest area. we immediately agreed to ring the vets. They booked him in for an appointment early the next morning. around 2130 and couldn‘t believe how much the swelling had increased.
Breezy was now breathing very fast and was quite irritable. He had not wanted to eat or drink properly. We were looking over him making sure we were not missing anything, when we noticed a puncture wound to his neck inbetween his rolls. It appeared to be leaking and smelt a little.

We booked a consultation with First vets, who are provided through our insurance policy for 24 hour online consultations. We went through Breezy’s history and what had changed more recently. She advised us that he should see by a vet that night instead of waiting till the morning.

We then phoned our out of hours vets service which is Vets Now and within 10 minutes we were in their waiting room. We again explained to this vet what had happened and showed her this puncture wound. We also explained that he was already on an anti-inflammatory/ pain killer tablet. She said that the only thing she could do at that moment was to give him a pain killer to get him through the night. We were a little aprehensive to this as the vet from the online consultation suggested he may need actual treatment for the swelling/ possible infection and this was not offered as an option. However she said that as we had the vet appontment in the morning the pain killer should get him through the night. So the pain killer was administered, went back home where we slept downstairs with him so we could hold his head on our hands as it appeared Breezy was too uncomfortable to lay down completely.
Thursday morning we were up early took him to our vets by 8am. By this time the swelling had increased even more and he was starting to have small red patches on his skin. Our vets saw us straight away and knew he was seriously ill. He explained that he thought Breezy was suffering from a serious infection and that he needed to start treatment immediately.

Breezy has been admitted to our vets since Thursday 21st July 2022, since then he has been recieving multiple antibiotics, pain relief, fluid therapy and draining of puss from his wound site. On Saturday 23rd, our vet rang us and asked us to go into the surgery. On arrival he expained that he had needed to make another incision to help drain out this puss and bacterial fluid from under his skin but also that the subcutaneous skin underneath had died due to the infection and that this was now turning into fluid that also needed to be drained. he explained that although havinf breezy on some strong antibiotics, it appeared that the infection had continued to spread and that it was likely that it was a very rare flesh eating bacteria. He started him on a new antibiotic which was even stronger however explained that if by tomorrow the infection continued to spread we would need to think about our options going forward.

Today, Sunday 24 July 2022 we went into the vets early this morning. The vet explained that it looks like the infection has not spread anymore but that Breezy is still extremely sick. He informed us that even if we manage to fight this infection, that Breezy will need extensive debridement of the affected areas, wet and dry dressing and very intensive care to support healing and new skin growth over a sunstanstive area of his body. He had been in touch with the Queen Mother Hospital run by the royal veterinary college to comfirm whether they believe Breezy will be able to survive this or not. If they do agree that there is a chance of treating this and getting our boy better we will transfer him to their hospital in Potters bar.

However, although we have a top insurance policy as with most policies it will only stretch so far. There is a chance that this treatment could go on for many weeks/ months and with that comes a price. We want to ensure that we have the funds available to save our boy regardless of the price, with the view to use any remaining money not needed for Breezy being donated to charity/further education and veterinary training.
Please, we are asking for absolutely anything anyone can give us to help us save our baby. He is more than just a dog, he is part of our family, our therapy and is very much like a son to us. He brightens up our days, wagging his tail as you come through the door and he has so much more love to give and so much more of this world to explore.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to each and every person that shares/ donates to our Big Boy Breezy to get him back home where he belongs! ❤️

Also, if you have precious little pups please be careful when taking them out and letting them freely explore parks/bushes. You just never know what is hiding ready to hurt our babies.
