Hi, my name is Theo, I’m 23 years old, and I’m currently living in the USA. I’m reaching out on behalf of my incredible stepmother, Delmarie Engelbrecht, who is currently fighting for her life in South Africa.

Delmarie was recently diagnosed with multiple brain tumors (meningiomas), most likely caused by a rare genetic condition called NF2 (Neurofibromatosis Type 2). Her medical report shows over 20 tumors, with the largest one pressing dangerously on her brain and causing swelling, midline shift, and fluid buildup. This condition is life-threatening and requires urgent brain surgery to help give her the care she urgently needs.

Why This Means So Much

Delmarie may not be our biological mother, but she’s been everything a real great bonus mom should be and more. She stepped in and helped raised me and my two disabled siblings with unconditional love, strength, and care. She is truly our “bonus mom”, and we cannot imagine life without her.She has been an amazing wife to my dad, always standing by his side through every high and low with love, strength, and patience. She’s also an incredible sister, the kind of person everyone leans on kind, selfless, and always ready to help without asking for anything in return.

Unfortunately, government hospitals in South Africa are overwhelmed, and they cannot offer her the surgery she urgently needs. We have found a private hospital willing to perform the surgery, but the total cost is $25,000 USD (about R450,000 ZAR) far beyond what we can afford on our own.Unfortunately, Delmarie’s health insurance has refused to cover the surgery, claiming that the condition is pre-existing. This has left our family in an incredibly difficult position we know what needs to be done to save her life, but we’re being forced to come up with the full cost out-of-pocket. That’s why we’re turning to our community and the kindness of strangers to help give her the care she urgently needs.
