At our fourth veterinarian appointment in just a week, we heard the devastating words no one wants to hear: Ginger has an aggressive mast cell tumor. We're scheduled to see an oncologist this Monday to explore treatment options.

Ginger's journey began with a rough start. She was an abused rescue, found living on a filthy mattress in an alley. When we visited the shelter, we weren't sure which dog to adopt. But then Ginger looked at my dad, flopped onto her back, and asked for a tummy rub. In that instant, she chose us, and we knew she was meant to be part of our family.

Bringing her home, we discovered she was scared of everything. She didn't bark, play, or even know how to enjoy toys. But with patience and love, she began to trust us. Her playful spirit emerged when we rescued another dog, Lucky, who became her inseparable companion. Lucky taught her how to play, and together they filled our home with joy and laughter.

Ginger’s rough life had left her with scars and a lot of fear. She had been bred at a very young age and was abandoned when she was just about a year old. For months, she was too scared to even whimper. Slowly, she started to come out of her shell. She didn’t know how to play fetch or even squeak a toy at first. But with time, she learned to trust us and began to show her sweet and loving nature.

One of the turning points was when we rescued Lucky. Ginger took to him as if he were her own pup. He taught her how to play and enjoy life. Now, they are inseparable best friends, always watching out for each other.

Despite her tough start in life, Ginger has become a loving and happy dog. She loves cuddles, butt rubs, and playing with Lucky. Seeing Ginger in pain breaks our hearts. The lump on her back started as a small bump but has grown rapidly. Despite our efforts and numerous vet visits, we've reached a point where specialized care is crucial. The costs are overwhelming, especially on a fixed income. We've already spent over $700 on vet bills, medications, and supplies, but the upcoming treatments and diagnostics are estimated to be much higher.
