Help us save Oliver.

Oliver has congenital heart failure due to a severe case of undiagnosed heartworm. (Keep reading)

Back Story: We found him as a stray a little less than a year ago and did all the things to make sure he was okay.

Brought him to the shelter where they vaccinated him, dewormed him, gave him his preventatives, neutered him, and let us know he was heartworm negative. He’s had a little cough since we got him, but they told us it was probably a genetic thing and that all else looked fine.

We chose to foster him, couldn’t find the right family for him, and eventually fell too in love and kept him.

We kept him on his monthly preventatives and all has been fine.

This past week he hasn’t been eating at all and has been very sleepy, so we made an urgent appointment to the vet.

They ran all the tests and let us know that he is indeed heartworm positive, his heart is enlarged and working hard to pump blood where it needs to go, including his lungs. At the level that he is, they believe that this has been going on for way longer than the amount of time we have had him.

This tells me that the shelter did not actually run a heartworm test on him and just wanted to quickly get another animal out of their system.

The vet let us know that this is all curable, but he would need to go to the emergency hospital where he will need to be on many medications for quite some time to get all of this out of his system.

We know this is going to be very costly, but I’ve seen the internet do incredible things and all we want is for him to live the best life that he can live.

We have 5 daughters and 3 other dogs who absolutely love him as much as we do, and we want nothing but the best for him.

Sadly, without treatment, his condition is only going to get worse and we, of course, do not want him to suffer. We just want to continue giving him the life he deserves because he is the sweetest dog ever.

Anything helps.

God bless.
