Help Us Save Obi

Our sweet cat Obi-Wan Kitobi is fighting for his life. He’s been hospitalized with acute pancreatitis and severe liver damage and complications, and the emergency medical bills are climbing into the thousands. We’ve already spent over $6,700 in less than two days, and our pet insurance will max out in the next 24–48 hours. We’re asking for help from our friends, family, and community to give Obi the chance he deserves to survive and heal.

What happened?

The night before last, Obi suddenly became very ill — lethargic, drooling, and struggling. His first set of X-rays and bloodwork revealed an enlarged liver and dangerously high ALT levels. The ER recommended keeping him hospitalized for 48 hours, but I couldn’t afford the amount they quoted, so I brought him home overnight and took him to our regular vet the next morning. He was hospitalized there all day yesterday, where further tests confirmed pancreatitis. Sadly, his bloodwork worsened — now with sky-high AST levels indicating further liver damage.

I rushed him back to the ER last night in hopes of getting an ultrasound, but there was no specialist available until this morning. Today we were finally able to see the internist, and the ultrasound revealed even more bad news: it confirmed acute pancreatitis, liver damage, and concerning nodules that could be cancerous. A fine needle biopsy was taken, but with the weekend ahead, we won’t know the results until next week. What we do know is that Obi’s condition requires constant 24/7 care right now, and because it’s the weekend, that care comes only at the ER — at about $2,500 per 24 hours.

Obi is currently hospitalized, receiving IV fluids, pain medication, and anti-nausea treatments. His condition is critical, but there is hope — cats’ livers can regenerate, and if we can support him through this crisis, he has a real chance to recover.

Unfortunately, the cost of saving him is staggering. So far, we have already paid:
  • $1,555.57 for initial emergency care, X-rays, and bloodwork
  • $765.97 for day hospitalization, bloodwork, and medications
  • $1,861.81 for ultrasound & biopsy
  • $2,563.67 for his first 24 hours of ER hospitalization

That’s a total of $6,746.02 in less than 48 hours. The vets expect at least another $5,000–$7,000 in medical expenses for continued hospitalization and treatment. Our 50% copay insurance will be completely maxed out within the next 24–48 hours (at $5000), leaving us to cover everything after out of pocket.

As everyone knows, Obi is more than just a pet — he is family. He is the little heartbeat at our feet, the one who makes us laugh, and the one who fills our home with love. Seeing him fight for his life is heartbreaking, but we refuse to give up on him.

If you are able to help, no matter how small the amount, your donation will go directly toward Obi’s medical care. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this page to help spread the word. Every single act of support brings us closer to bringing Obi home safe and healthy.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us in Obi’s fight.
