I visited Broward Animal Services just to look, and I instantly fell in love with Nugget the Chiweenie. I knew then I needed to adopt him. On Sunday, 10/19/2025, at 4 pm, I finished signing the adoption papers and picked him up from getting neutered. I've been watching closely: slow short walks, lots of rest, and even been hand-feeding him and constantly checking his incision for infection.

Yesterday, on 10/23/2025, he started hacking a lot, sneezing, runny nose, shivering, avoiding food/water, and feverish. Now, at 4:15 am on 10/24/2025, I shortly went out and came back. Nugget got so excited to see me, then started hacking and instantly collapsed and started urinating on himself. His gums instantly turned pale as well as his ears. I picked him up quickly and started life-saving measures.

I know I signed papers saying I'm responsible for his health, but I never imagined I would be going through something so drastic after 5 days. I haven't even been given the chance to find him proper insurance. I've already made the complimentary appointment provided by the shelter, but they are basically saying prepare your pockets. Please, if anyone could help me with a rescue that can help cover some costs or donations straight to a clinic, I really need the help. I love Nugget so much, and I don't see myself without him
