Save Nova: Our Beloved Bearded Dragon
Donation protected
On October 26th, my boyfriend and I made a decision to purchase another bearded dragon, a very pretty citrus tiger female, who was about 4 months old. We bought her and impatiently waited for her. The seller gave us constant updates on her shipping and was just as anxious as we were. And then, on the 27th, she arrived. Cold and unhappy from being in a small container on a loud plane, but she was perfect. We put her in the warm basking spot of her very own tank and she immediately settled in and bonded to us. She was such a sweet little girl, immediately waving at our other boy, Toothless, and doing little tiny head bobs. We did our best to care for our scale babies. They mean so much to us and we've done so much for them, everything that we can. Nova bonded with us almost immediately and was constantly scratching to get out just to sit on the bed and look at us. We would talk to her and the way she stares at us, she has to understand what we're saying. She loves to cuddle with us at bedtime and when she's scared, she comes running. When we let her explore the house, she always takes a few steps and then looks over her shoulder to make sure one of us is following her. She's a very, very sweet and loving lizard.
About two weeks ago, one of our others started coughing and we suspected it was a respiratory infection and started an antibiotic injection. I believe she had a reaction to it because that same day, she was black beard, her eyes were sunken in and she looked like she felt awful and her saliva was very, very sticky. A week later, she drank a little bit of water, aspirated and we lost her. And now, Nova is on her third injection and looking the same way. Constant black beard, the coughing and whipping her head back and forth like she has something in her mouth, despite the vet looking down her throat more than once, eyes sunken in, pooping urate when she has the coughing fits and generally not feeling well at all. She is at a point to where she needs an x-ray (CT scan ideally) to see if anything can be seen in her lungs. She is at a point to where if she continues the way she is, she won't make it. She needs this medical care to survive. Nova is our first girl, our first sweet baby girl that we absolutely don't want to lose. Anything can be helpful, the price is estimated for being done at UGA with room to have a CT scan done, if need be, which run about 400-600ish, not counting the cost of an xray, (100-200), office visit (100+) and any other test they may want. Thank you for any support.
