Save Nimrod XV232!
Donation protected
Nimrod XV232 ‘The Mighty Hunter’ is a classic cold war jet submarine hunting aircraft and is owned and run by the Nimrod Preservation Group at Coventry Airport, in Warwickshire.
In the past we have had donations from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England and the Department for Culture Media and Sport. We continue to investigate other funding streams however many are closed to new applicants and the situation is becoming critical.
We are now seeking donations from the wider Public to keep the aircraft in a serviceable (albeit non-flying) condition so that we can conduct engine ground runs with the Public in attendance, help to pay the insurance costs for these ground runs and for the general upkeep of the aircraft so that it can continue to be displayed to the Public in a serviceable state for as long as possible.
If we do not get £8000 to cover the cost of the insurance we risk losing the aircraft for good!
In addition, with the possible closure of Coventry Airport we may have to move the aircraft to another site and will require the additional funds to enable this to happen as XV232 will have to be dismantled and moved by road.
Without YOUR support, if Coventry Airport does close, we may have to scrap XV232 where she currently sits as we simply do not have the finances to do otherwise.
This aircraft has the distinction of having carried out the longest flight of any Nimrod during the Falkland conflict, logging 8453 miles in the 18 hr 50 minute flight. Please help us now!
