Hi, my name is Maddie. My little miniature Shetland Oreo needs some help. He is my whole world. We have done everything together and he is only 5, he should have at least another 30 years left in him.

Unfortunately at the start of September this year he developed a limp on his front right leg. I had a vet out to him immediately. They examined him, watched him in trot and nerve blocked his foot which didn’t work. We put him on box rest and a painkiller called Bute for 10 days. He improved slightly but nothing major. I had the vet back out in October and they x rayed his leg and shoulder. They told me he had a slight irregularity to his shoulder bone. I was told to turn him out in a small paddock for 3 months to see if any improvement. Fast forward to now and he is slightly worse. The vets rang me to inform me he has dysplasia in his shoulder which can’t be fixed. They said the best option would be pts but I could leave him until spring on painkillers.

I accepted it and booked him in. I have spent 12 hours a day with him since. I took him to the beach as he’d never seen it before and I was desperate for him to feel the sand on his little hooves and to walk in the sea (he would only put one foot in). Luckily I had a friend able to take me and I took him as I thought it would be the last opportunity I got.  I loved every minute of it but I cannot come to terms with the fact that after Monday I will never see him again and I’ll only have his tail left. It feels so harsh.

I have already paid out nearly £1000 to try. I just can’t afford to go any further. I’m speaking to another vet for a second opinion but they can only help if they see him. They are able to do more in house so i would have to take him to the hospital there. They have said £200 for a consultation to look at him. I have a friend able to take me. Then they said potentially another £400-£800 to diagnose him. I really really need your help to save him. Anything will help. If 500 people donate a £1 I will be able to help him!

We have done literally everything you could do, I’ve taught him to rear on command, drive, jump, showing and be ridden. He’s such a clever little pony. Please please please help.
