Hi,
My best friend (23, non-binary), and their emotional support animal (ESA) has recently fallen on extremely hard times, and this is my final thing I can think of to help.
My friend has been given an illegal eviction from their apartment earlier this month, with a move-out date of December 6th. There was no reason for this eviction, and we are seeking legal help to combat this.
However, my friend is disabled, (they physically cannot move their furniture out), has no transportation, and is living paycheck to paycheck off of government disability (SSI payments). I've put my all into trying to get my friend housing - I've gone apartment hunting, gone on tours in my local area, and even am going to put my name on their lease, so that they may pass the income and credit check.
The only problem, however, is money. Although my friend receives money per month, it's not enough for them to move out in time. They are at extreme risk of becoming homeless on December 6th, losing not only their furniture and their cat, but their ability to have safe housing as well. I'm doing absolutely everything I can, but we need additional help to secure my best friend's housing.
Where your money will be going:
Were we to hit our goal, I would take off work to fly myself to my friend's home state, get a moving truck, move their furniture, and drive us the 12 hours to my home state (I don't feel comfortable putting my name on their lease without their apartment being in my home state, I hope you understand). I will be sending updates every step of the way, were this goal to be achieved.
- $1,200: First month's rent (required by most landlords upfront)
- $1,200: Security deposit
- $600: Pet deposit (from what I understand, this can be up to 1/2 of 1 month's rent)
- $800: To acquire a small moving truck, this is about the cheapest we can find for the distance we need to travel
- $200: Flight: This is to fly me out to my friend's home state, using the cheapest flight we could find. This includes an Uber or Lyft to get me from the airport to the moving truck.
Any extra money donated will be used to pay legal fees, cover my friend's medical bills due to their disability, and generally help them find financial security to help them through their young adulthood.
If the monetary goal is not reached:
If we don't reach our goal - that's okay: I appreciate every bit of support you're kind enough to give us. We do have a backup plan in place, that plan being to find a small storage unit for my friend's furniture, and find a cheap, pet-friendly long-term hotel for them to stay, until they can save up enough SSI money to afford more permanent housing.
Even if we don't reach our goal, I will be sending updates about the situation and health of my friend and their cat.
Thank you very much for reading this far, and considering supporting my best friend, and my efforts to get them out of a terrible situation.
