Don protégé
On January 11th I was walking my dog with my children when my dog got loose from his collar. He is a very energetic dog and likes to run around a lot but this time there was snow on the sidewalks so he ended up in the street.
As I was trying to retrieve him from the road a pickup truck came up the street and was going too fast and would not slow down even though he saw me and my dog and middle of the road. I flapped my arms up and down for him to slow down and as I moved out of his way my dog ran across the street and was struck by his vehicle.
To make matters worst he just kept driving AFTER he hit him like he never saw me or PJ to begin with. I was left there screaming for him to stop but he just drove away.
We got PJ from a shelter in Maine a little over a year ago. He was the only pup left of 6 in his litter and was really shy and scared when I first got him. They found him and his brother's next to a dumpster and that's when he went to the shelter.
In a little over a year he has really come out of his shell. He is not as shy anymore and has become a very loving and good friend. He is a great member of are family and we could use a little help to get him back to the puppy we know and love!!
The injuries he sustained from being struck by the truck are a large laceration going from his neck down to his shoulder blade. He also sustained a pelvic displacement and a fracture. He also sustained a traumatic pneumothorax .
There are a few surgeries to be done and I'm sure months of healing. Any and all help will be used for his comfort, care and Rehabilitation.
