Save my brothers legs

Donation protected

When you are faced with your worst nightmare. Life or death. Do you give up or keep fighting for your life?

My brother is Juan Carlos Flores, but everyone knows him as Jr. My brother is the most caring, loving and selfless individual you will ever meet. He has and will give you the shirt off his back, he’ll give you his last meal to make sure you’re not hungry. He’s only 25 yrs old but he’s already fighting the toughest battle of his life.

3 weeks ago my brother was caught in a tragic and unpredictable house fire. The fire engulfed his home in a blink of an eye. A simple everyday activity turned deadly. He was filling up his lawnmower with gasoline to mow the lawn. He unknowingly spilled some gasoline on himself in the process. As he raced up the stairs to change into something else he bumped into a candle he had on the stairs. His pants immediately ignited into flames.

Panicked Jr raced down stairs into the laundry-room to retrieve some damp clothes and attempted to dowse the flames engulfing his legs. In the process he set fire to the laundry room
which contained his gasoline tanks and unfortunately, had some gasoline spilt on the floor.
As everything, including him self, was being engulfed in flames my brother tried frantically to extinguish the flames on his body. He tried peeling his pants off is melting skin but only being able to remove so much before the pain of his skin being torn off his limbs became too unbearable. Running out of energy and clean air to breath my brother laid in the burning house ready to die.

At that moment a complete stranger came to his aid. This hero risked his own life to save my brothers. He ran into the burning home and carried my fraile and burnt brothers body out of the raging fire.

Three weeks later we still don’t know who this hero is. We are eternally grateful for his selflessness. With out him my brother wouldn’t  be alive and in recovery.

Now Jr faces another battle in front of him. Learning how to walk again. Jr is wheel chair bound with 25% of his body consumed with 3rd degree burns. At just 25 yrs old, my brother is coming to terms with the possibility that he won’t ever walk or run again. He’ll never be able to ride a skateboard again, which is one of his biggest passions. My brother will never be able to show his nephew how to ride a skateboard and to make a play in football. My brother might never be able to take his baby niece by the hand and walk her to her first day of school. My brother might never feel what it is like to walk down the isle on his wedding day.

Our mother is inconsolable. The last time she saw her son he was standing tall. Now she pushes him around in his wheel chair and watches helplessly as they change his bandages and he attends physical therapy.

Jr is trying to stay optimistic. His main focus is being able to walk again. They have performed multiple skin grafts, taking good
skin from his torso to patch on to his legs. He’s gotten cadaver skin and fish skin grafts as well in an attempt to give him the best fighting chance.

Jr, my bother and an uncle to 5 nephews and 2 nieces, was uninsured at the time
of his tragedy. He won’t be able to get a job any time soon, he won’t be able to go back to working like he used to. His whole life has completely changed. Each stay in the hospital is costing him around 5,000 dollars. He requires around the clock care.

My family is humbly asking for any and all donations. Any thing to help my brave and resilient brother see a small light at the end of the tunnel. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Learning how to walk, copping with his new disability and finding work to get back on his feet and put him self into a new home and cut down on the medical expenses.

Jr is a fighter. He fought to stay alive as the flames consumed his flesh and he is fighting for a chance at a normal life.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping out.

Juan Carlos (Jr) and the Flores Family.
