Morris is a 2 year and 9 month old blue fawn French bulldog and is the most perfect boy in the whole world, until last week we learned some somber news.
One morning 12/26/19 he started shaking, panting, bowing his head and was very stiff and having a hard time breathing... after two episodes we rushed him to our regular vet who treated him as an allergic reaction, we were sent home and just a few hours Later things got worse, he was yelping and was in clear distress and pain. We went straight to the emergency vet clinic where they gave him and pain shot and did blood work and X-rays to find he had a condition Called IVDD. It stands for intervertebral disk disease. They sent us home with pain meds and said to contact our regular vet on Monday. Saturday 12/28/19 he struggled to get comfortable so we asked for a stronger pain med for him and that helped some, but would still wake in pain and yelping fits. He was not able to control his bladder, unable to sleep, would not eat and would hardly get any meds down him. Sunday 12/29/19 got worse again so we rushed him to another emergency vet clinic and he was able to get another pain shot and a referral to a neurologist. They added even more pain meds to keep him comfortable until then.
Monday morning 12/30/19 I called neuro Vet and they got us in for an emergency appt at 11:30. At about 10, he started having another episode so we drove over there and they took us back immediately. We met the MOST AMAZING team of people and they were nothing but kind, caring, and very knowledgeable in all things related to Morris and his problems. They said we needed to start with and MRI and go from there.
We did not receive good news. He has a ruptured disk, which will be surgically fixed on Thursday (1/2/20)morning.
Next, he has a disease called syrinx, I’ll attach a description. His little spinal cord of filling with fluid and replacing the tissue that is in needed for the body to function. It is fairly bad being that he is only 2 years old and there is not a cure for it, but he can have another surgery’s a later date that will remove a band on his spine that is causing the opening for the fluid to pass thru.
It can cause him to lose all neurological function at some point that cannot be regained. It’s a very hard disease to understand what can be expected at this time we are given quotes for both surgeries and MRI plus previous emergency room costs, all totaling about $16,000. We are willing to do whatever it takes to get out boy out of pain.
I’m heartbroken
Many friends have suggested we do a Go Fund Me to help with costs, as hard as it is to swallow, we are so very grateful for every dollar that will help pay for some of the expenses. Thank you for reading our story. Morris is loved by so many, he goes to work with me every day and is a big part of my clients happiness as well.
Morris has a big brother, Slater, a Labrador and a little (big) brother, Clark, also a French bulldog. They miss their brother and his happy playful personality.
