As many of you know, the past two years have been some of the hardest my family has ever faced. My husband was on life support, and not long after, I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Both of us had to fight our way back—physically, emotionally, and financially.

This year finally felt like a breath of fresh air. We’ve been doing better than we have in a long time, slowly getting back on our feet—literally and figuratively. But just as we’ve started to find some light again, we’re now facing another heartbreak we never expected.

Our sweet cat, Morgana, who has been with us for 7 years, our very first family pet, is now in critical condition. She’s currently in the ICU doe diabetes ketoacidosis, and the vets want to keep her for several days to stabilize her and give her the best chance to recover.

Cats and animals mean so much to me. They’ve always been my comfort, my joy, and my safe place. And this cat has been more than a pet: she’s been my “doula kitty.” Through every pregnancy, she stayed by my side, always curling up with each new baby, and even alerting me when labor was near. When Guillain-Barré left me unable to walk, she never left me. She was always by my side, giving me comfort and quiet support when I needed it most. She has been my children’s cuddle buddy, my quiet caretaker, and my rock through so many seasons of life.

She’s not only family to us humans but also the heart of our little animal family. The other cats are deeply bonded to her, following her lead and seeking her comfort. Her nickname is “Mother,” because she cares for them as if they were her own, grooming them, protecting them, and giving them the same gentle love she’s given.

Morgana has just come through her very first ICU stay which was a long and expensive week of critical care. We’re so grateful she’s finally home and showing signs of feeling more like herself again though!

The GoFundMe helped us get through the emergency, but now we’re facing the next chapter: her ongoing treatment, insulin, medications, and follow-up visits. As well as some more testing. We’ve already stretched everything we had, and while we’ll keep doing whatever it takes, we may need a hand during this transition until we can catch back up from the ICU costs.
