Save Moose: Urgent Surgery Needed for Lisa's Dog

Hello everyone! Lisa Guido is the founder of Southern Tails for Precious Paws dog rescue in Charleston, South Carolina. She desperately needs our help with her sweet boy Moose! Moose is a seven-year-old Lassa/Shih Tzu mix. Lisa rescued him from the mountains of West Virginia when she was a travel nurse in Pikeville, Kentucky seven years ago. He was born seconds before she arrived to pick up his mother Zoey, who also delivered 3 precious litter mates.
Since starting her nonprofit animal rescue seven years ago, she has made it her passion and her promise to provide medical care for any dog that comes into her rescue: that includes dogs from high kill shelters who were scheduled to be euthanized, dogs who are high medical need cases such as fractured bones that need expensive surgical repair, senior dogs that need dental care with multiple extractions, dogs that are heartworm positive and pregnant dogs with complicated deliveries.

The past seven years has been nothing short of miraculous with the support of the community and the amazing homes she has found for every one of these rescue dogs!

But this little dog is one of her personal dogs. You see, Lisa has spent every single penny of her personal savings to help other dogs in need, making sure they would get the medical care that they needed and never once thinking that her very own personal dogs might need emergency fund for themselves.

Saturday morning after sweet little Moose had been vomiting blood clots, he was taken to the vet where he was diagnosed with gastritis. However, upon further work up, an abdominal x-ray revealed there was a large soft ball size mass in his abdomen…. NOT related to his gastritis/ stomach issues. An ultrasound revealed a 10 cm mass growing on his spleen.

The silver lining here is that because of his gastritis, we found something that would probably have eventually ruptured and sweet little Moose would have died immediately without her ever knowing what was the cause.

The good news is that he is a surgical candidate because his ultrasound only reveals a splenic mass nothing that seems to be entwined around his liver or his intestines. So the urgency to remove this mass is extreme! The bad news is she had personally funded the rescue with her own savings, in turn she does not have the $8,500 to cover his surgery in time.

Everyday that passes this mass grows bigger and increases his chances of a hemorrhagic rupture. By the time she saves this amount his chances of this mass rupturing increase exponentially.

He has an opportunity to have this removed and she is desperate to try to raise money for this very expensive surgery. She’s kicking herself and is feeling overwhelmed with guilt… as she never would have imagined that one of her personal dogs would be in a situation to need emergency surgery but here we are and she is heartbroken.

It’s not fair to have saved over 4000 dogs in need that are now adopted and yet now she can’t even save one of her own!
The guilt is overwhelming and she feels helpless right now watching her sweet little boy walk around knowing he is a ticking time bomb without this surgery !

So we are desperately asking for your financial help!!

We believe that God is so good and that he has a plan. Lisa was also not able to be blessed with human children, instead God blessed her with her fur babies such as her little Moose!! . Her dogs are her children. Seven years old is just too young to say good bye!!

Please if you can help in anyway she would be forever grateful!
