Save Misu: Critical Heart Failure and FIP

Misu is my sweet one-year-old cat that loves his wet tuna treats, loves his cuddles, and loves people even more. He makes the softest loafs, kneads the best bread, and doesn’t even know how to bite or scratch anyone.

Devastatingly, he is currently in critical condition in 24/7 emergency care.

He started experiencing symptoms two weeks ago, in which the vet recommended X-rays and antibiotics. Thankfully, the X-rays came back clear, and we were sent home with the antibiotics.

However, within a few days, his right eye, which was previously blue - turned yellow. After rushing him to the vet, they recommended bloodwork, an ultrasound, different antibiotics, and a concoction of other medications. Thankfully, the ultrasound showed no fluid buildup; however, a few days later, the bloodwork came back suspicious for FIP. Unfortunately, until the FIP PCR results came back, the vet assured us there was nothing else to be done at the time.

Within two days his condition quickly changed. He went from seemingly getting better, to having difficulty breathing, a distended stomach, and an anxiously high heart rate. With another emergency visit to the vet, a secondary X-ray showed an enlarged heart with fluid buildup in the lungs and abdomen.

As recommended, he was immediately rushed to the 24/7 emergency care facility. The initial diagnostics showed elevated Globulin and Bilirubin levels, with extremely low calcium, hematocrit, and electrolytes, as well as other levels out of the normal range. All of the findings are consistent with congestive heart failure.

My sweet Misu is in heart failure.

My sweet Misu, who doesn’t even know how to bite or scratch someone, is drowning in his own lungs.

In addition to this, he has multiple possible secondary conditions, one such being FIP. They will be treating him for the heart failure, lung fluid, and probable FIP tonight. He will need a blood transfusion as well, but his body currently cannot sustain this treatment until he is stable as it will overwhelm his heart. This doesn’t include the future ultrasounds, X-rays, and echocardiograms he will need.

Due to the emergency nature of the 24/7 care facility, cost for such care is extremely high. I have split the deposit amount across multiple credit cards, but would appreciate any (quite literally any) assistance with covering the rest.

Thank you - I hope Misu will be able to push through the night, and live a long, healthy, and happy life with us.
