Save Milo's Life! Leg Amputation or Euthanasia
In a completely tragic and unexpected accident, Milo severed toes, ligaments, bones, and tendons in his back leg, leaving only two options to his devastated family: amputation of the back leg or euthanasia unless 50% of $3457.62 can be raised. I have set this GoFundMe at $4000 because they will take some of this money and I want to try and raise the full amount so Jennifer's family isn't struggling financially due to it. Half MUST be raised by this afternoon or the operation cannot go ahead as hoped for.
Milo was tied on a long line outside last night, supervised by his owner and one of my best friends, Jennifer Fretz. The bunnies she recently adopted were in their outside pen when a big stray tomcat came out of the bushes stalking towards them. Milo, who adores the bunnies as though they were more 'babies' already, bolted upright in an attempt to protect the buns. The long line, the same he has always been out on since a pup, somehow was looped around the foot and leg and in a horrific manner completely ruined toes and leg both. At first, the vet thought maybe they could amputate a couple of the toes that were visibly severed before doing more tests--tests which showed that the other toes were also severed internally and so were the ligaments, tendons bones inside the leg. There is no hope of saving the leg whatsoever. It must be amputated or Milo will have to be humanely euthanized.
Milo has been with Jenn's family since he was six months of age. She has four children who love and adore him, but perhaps none more so than Liii, her autistic daughter of nine years. Milo has been a therapy dog for Lili who has helped her come out of her shell, open up, speak and interact on a more neurotypical level, and has been a protector and comfort to her since she was a baby. To lose Milo this way, so abruptly is not only terrible for Milo and Jennifer but would be devastating to Lili who won't understand. This is a very sudden situation and the abrupt change would be difficult for her to process. Jennifer is undergoing a separation at this time from an ex-husband who recently quit his job and who said Milo should just be put down. Jenn and I, however, do not want this outcome. During Covid times when so many are out of work, I haven't the funds to pay the vet bill myself or I would. Nor does Jennifer, who has four kids to support and is looking to move into a more suitable home for them. Without spending money for bills she currently cannot afford the 50% upfront that the vet was kind enough to make an agreement upon, not to mention the full amount. Nor, sadly, can I.
I am aware of how difficult times are for everyone right now. I am hoping for a miracle, really, as is Jennifer. I am really hoping there are people I reach who might have even a little extra to donate to save Milo's life. He is otherwise healthy and the vet says he should have at least a few good years left in him! He and his family, who have been through so much already and are undergoing so much already, deserve that. Please, please, please SHARE if you cannot donate! The more people this reaches the better chance Milo has. Thank you all so much! xoxo
