Save Milo: Help Us Afford His Life-Saving Surgery

Donation protected
Hi everyone it’s Cheyenne and Jake. If you know us you know that our dogs are more to us than animals, they are the closest thing we know to having children. We are the “crazy dog parents” you hear about.

We are expecting our first human child on Feb 3, 2026. With so many life changes we could have never guessed we’d also be facing the hardest challenge of our lives right now.

On Tuesday while I was at school, Milo walked up to Jake and let out a low deep groan. Jake rushed him to the vet because he knew something was not right. We learned that Milo had suffered a spontaneous bilateral pneumothorax, which means both lungs collapsed leaking air into his chest cavity. They removed almost 5 liters of air from his chest in the first 24 hours.

Unbeknownst to us, huskies and malamutes are known as the “poster child” for this condition. No warning, no trauma, just a genetic predisposition for bad luck.

Milo is currently in the ICU with a chest tube to remove the air that keeps accumulating. He is failing all conservative attempts at saving his life. Surgery is the only option at this point which consists of opening his chest (similar to open heart surgery in humans) to remove the lobe(s) leaking air. He will be going into surgery tomorrow, with 2-3 more days in the ICU ahead of him.

This single event is costing us right around $19,000 and has become financially devastating, as we were not expecting an emergency of this extent with a little one on the way.

Throughout all of this Milo continues to be alert, tail wagging, and still the sweetest boy as long as they keep removing the air from his chest every 2 hours. Vets expect that he will make a full recovery and his quality of life will not be impacted once he gets through this. He’s only 4 and still has lots of life ahead of him.

We can’t imagine our family without him. We’re simply asking for anything you’re comfortable with giving us. No donation is too small. Sharing this helps just as much.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read Milo’s story and for supporting us in any way that you can. We will continue to provide updates as he heals. Milo has brought so much joy into our lives and we’re doing everything we can to ensure that he lives out his entire life with a family that truly cherishes him.
