Help Merida Walk Again!

THE STORY

Hello friends, I started this fundraising to help a young lady in San Felipe who is trying to save the dog she rescued on July 4th. Her story was posted on San Felipe Chatter and I felt that I could not just express my sympathy, I wanted to help.

The dog was hit by a car and sustained some serious injuries to her legs. The young lady’s name is Sarai. She named the dog Merida. Sarai took Merida to the vet in San Felipe, but after they told her that they will have to amputate both Merida’s legs, she drove all the way to Mexicali to see another vet. The vet in Mexicali said that Merida will need three surgeries, and they are certain they can save her legs.

I don’t know Sarai personally, but I verified the story and I’m in contact with Sarai to get the updates, pictures, etc. Sarai is taking care of everyday expenses, but she does not have the money to pay for the surgery.

THE COST

The cost of the surgery is $25000 pesos (this is about $1,300 to $1,500 US dollars according to the most recent exchange rate). There will be more expenses depending on the outcome of the surgery, and Merida will definitely need the follow up checkups and rehabilitation.

The open wounds on Merida’s legs need to heal first, before the surgery can be performed. Sarai has been driving Merida to Mexicali weekly to check on the progress and change the bandages. Each appointment and a bandage change costs $800 pesos (about $45 US dollars). She also has to pay for the gas.

The healing process will take a few weeks, and the surgery needs to happens as soon as it is feasible to ensure the best outcome.

I set the goal for this fundraising to $3,000. Not sure if it will be enough to cover some future expenses, but it is a start. I will be asking Sarai to provide me the receipts from the vet, to account for all the expenses.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Sarai’s friends and family are trying very hard to raise the money to help her. She also tried to reach out to some animal rescue groups in Mexico, but to no avail. The time is running out and this dog needs the care in order to survive and walk again. Sarai is very determined to do whatever it takes to take care of Merida.

If this story touched your heart, like it did mine, please contribute. Any amount will help us to get closer to our goal to help this extraordinary lady to save the dog who was abandoned and injured. Sarai wants to keep Merida.
