As many of you know, I lost my beloved not even 2 year old dog, Meelo unexpectedly and the pain of not knowing what happened is starting to feel unbearable. As a dog trainer, my entire career revolves around helping dogs live their happiest and healthiest lives. I’ve worked with so many dogs over the years—helping them overcome challenges, build trust, and thrive. But the loss of Meelo, and the fact that I don’t know what took him away so suddenly, has left a hole that I can’t fill. I’ve always believed that understanding what’s going on with a dog’s health is key to being the best advocate for them. How can I truly guide my clients’ dogs if I don’t have that knowledge? And when the day comes that I feel ready to open my heart to another dog, how can I ever feel confident doing so without knowing what happened to Meelo? The fear of losing another dog the same way—without answers—holds me back from even considering it. The necropsy showed that Meelo suffered from toxic liver necrosis, which was the suspected cause of death but still no clarity on the toxin. There are additional tests available that could help us pinpoint exactly what toxin or factor led to his sudden illness and death. The results of these tests could provide the closure I so desperately need, not just for my own peace of mind but for my career as a trainer—and for any future dog I may bring into my life. On top of the emotional toll, the costs have put a huge financial burden on me. I’m running out of money, but I refuse to give up. I’m determined to get answers—for Meelo, for myself, and for every dog who comes after him.
