"You've lost that loving feeling" doesn't even begin to describe this heartbreaking situation.
Please help me save this Top Gun duo, Maverick and Charlotte (call sign - Charlie).
***Full story and update below as of 6.12.18***
A friend of mine and I were notified about a dog (Maverick) in desperate need of help living in a neighborhood in northeast Houston. A handful of residents had been occasionally feeding him, but his needs rapidly went beyond their means. It is apparent now, from talking to the residents in the area, that mange has become an epidemic in the neighborhood post-Harvey. And most dogs in the area run free, stray or pet, spreading the condition everywhere.
Maverick did indeed need help. Badly. I returned to the neighborhood the next day to at least give him some Bravecto to get rid of fleas and start fighting the mange. It had stormed and he was difficult to find. I finally saw him, trotting to my car from across a vacant lot. So eager that he might get some food today.
Only....it wasn't him. It was a female that looked just like him, and was in the same (possibly even worse) condition.
What am I to do? Continue trying to help Maverick as this poor pitiful girl watches? Am I to load him up in my car and drive away, leaving her there to die? No. Absolutely not.
Saving them has become my mission. I've rescued many animals in the past and have always fostered them myself and funded their vetting out of my own pocket. But certain changes in my life right now inhibit my ability to take them in. And their needs are extensive. It's just terrible timing. I know this is a huge request for even just one dog, let alone two. I'm desperate, and they are dying.
That is why I am tugging at the hearts of friends and family and friends of friends who have anything to spare to help save these two lives. Every little amount helps.
I can't save them alone.

Maverick
- in medical boarding as of 6/8/18
- approximately 10-12 years old
- husky mix
- heartworm positive
- definitely underweight/emaciated
- demodectic and sarcoptic mange mites are dead & fur is growing back!
- on pre-meds for slow heartworm treatment
- now vaccinated
- blood panel came back very good
- appears to already be neutered
- well fed, comfortable, and loved
Personality: Timid, but friendly. He's a very "old soul". You can tell he's just been so miserable for so long and been left behind too many times in his life. His eyes are brightening up though and he's finally starting to relax.
>>>>The exciting developement is that we have an AMAZING rescue organization that has seen the rallying for these babies and wants to help even further by taking them into their rescue! This is absolutely incredible. They are not local. Shelters in northern states often times have better capabilities and success than shelters in southern states, so they will reach out to assist when they can. Transport is being arranged for these two on June 23rd. More on this to come.
IN THE MEANTIME, they are still in desperate need of medical treatment, especially Charlotte. It is hard to say how much longer she would have lasted on the street as the temperatures rise into the triple digits and parasites run more rampant in the heat and humidity. They deserve this chance to live, especially since they still, for some reason, have faith in humanity. Charlotte has been wagging her tail since I scooped her up off the asphalt. In nearly every photo, her tail is a blur.
That's worth saving, ya'll.
Thank you all so much for the continual support. You blow me away. I know so many amazing people. There are so many good people out there! These two dogs are now loved by more people over the last 5 days than their entire lives! Thank you.
