Help Save Borchert’s Meat Market
S.O.S. (Save Our Store)
Hello, my name is Josie Borchert. My family’s business, Borchert's Meat Market, may soon be no more. Once Roger’s, then Richard’s, and now Borchert’s, this community store has always been family run. Even though I am a full-time teacher, I’ve spent many years working there and now help out alongside my brothers when I can. The store has become part of who we are. But more importantly, it is part of the Maplewood community and beyond.
For 10 years my parents have worked tirelessly—open to close, every day, often without taking a paycheck—just to keep Borchert’s open for the community they love. With four new housing facilities in the area, that community is growing. This economic development has given them hope for the future, but the past is proving difficult to endure. They are desperately holding on for the influx of new families to join our community.
My Mom said that one of the hardest things you can do in life is to ask for help. She was right. The Borchert family is asking for your help.
You’ve been there for my family’s past challenges: break-ins, theft, vandalism, and repairs, but right now, the store is facing its hardest challenge yet. Due to the pressures of today’s economy they are struggling to keep their property taxes current. If the property taxes are not current, the bank that holds the mortgage will pull the note. My family simply doesn’t have time to wait for the housing around us to be completed.
We are urgently seeking your help! Without your support they will have to close the store. The goal is to raise $60,000 in the next couple of months. The funds will pay off their property taxes and cover expenses to keep the store open. Your support of this fundraiser can show the bank that the community is rallying behind this small business.
Borchert’s has supported local parishes, cancer fundraisers, and Scouting America over the years. They have always supported the community, even through the global pandemic. During COVID, the store overcame supply challenges—providing essentials when many other stores were out of stock. This market is my parents’ livelihood, their passion, and their way of giving back. Without it, they would have to start all over again. I honestly believe this is where they are meant to be.
This is your family store where each and every one of you are welcomed as family when you enter through that door. We are all in this together. It may take a great number of people to help out just a little. Let’s not let another small business disappear.
Please support, pray, shop, and drop a little in the bucket.
With gratitude,
Josie Borchert
