Hi, my name is Nina.
4 years ago I rescued Mama, a beautiful Pomeranian mix. Before I rescued her, she was physically abused by her previous owners and it took a lot of time for her to begin to trust me and get comfortable at home. To this day, she still fears broom/mop sticks and hangers, but she knows she's safe and at home as long as she is with me.
Since bringing her home, Mama has become my companion. All of my children have left the nest and I live alone, so Mama and I have had time to bond in a way that I never expected. I was always one to scoff at people that seems to do too much when it came to their animals, but now I know the love a person can develop for their furbabies. Mama is now my emotional support animal and my best friend.
A few months ago Mama developed a lump on her chest. The lump started off small, but kept growing. I became worried, so I took her to PAWS Chicago. PAWS is a non-for-profit organization that provides animal care to low-income individuals. It took some time to get an appointment, but I was finally able to have Mama tested and the lump looked at with Old Town Animal Care Center.
On January 30, 2025, I received notice that Mama has Mammary Cancer and the lump is a malignant tumor that developed in the mammary gland. The doctor informed me that she is in discomfort, but if we take action now, there is a good possibly we can save her life. They are charging me $1,800.00 to completely remove the cancer.
I am turning to my community for help during this difficult time. For those that know me, I am a disabled woman and I live on a very fixed income. I barely make it by on my own. I honestly cannot afford $1,800.00. It breaks my heart, but if I am unable to come up with the money to safe my baby, I will likely have to put her to sleep.
I have never created one of these and it deeply pains me to ask for this type of help, but I don't really have other options. So I ask you all to empathize and to think about your furbabies and your closest friends. If you can spare any amount that will help me reach my goal to save my baby, I would be externally grateful. Please, consider giving anything you can. Even $1.00 can go a long way.
If you are unable to contribute, please be sure to send me and my baby girl a prayer.
I hope to enjoy Mama for many more years to come.
Thank you for your time reading this. I wish you all well.
