Hi, we’re Barbara and Brodie, and we’re reaching out during one of the most difficult moments our little family has ever faced.
Our sweet dog Maggie, a 9-year-old rescue and the heart of our home, was suddenly diagnosed with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) — a rare and life-threatening autoimmune disease where her body attacks and destroys her own red blood cells. In a matter of hours, Maggie went from being her usual gentle, steady self to severely anemic, jaundiced, and too weak to stand.
We rushed her to the emergency hospital, where she’s now receiving a blood transfusion, 24/7 monitoring, and intensive testing, including a liver biopsy and ultrasound. The care team says she’s “a fighter,” and we believe that with the right treatment, she still has a real chance. But she needs help — and we can’t do this alone.
We share our home with three other dogs and three cats, and Maggie has always been their steady matriarch — calm, loving, patient. She’s also been our emotional anchor through the toughest years of our lives. We are currently in the middle of a deeply personal and financially overwhelming custody case for a foster child we’ve raised since infancy, and while we are doing everything we can to hold it all together, we are financially stretched thin.
We never expected to be here — but Maggie didn’t ask for this, and she deserves a chance to keep living the life she loves. If you’re able to donate, every single dollar will go directly to her emergency care and follow-up treatment. If you can’t give right now, please consider sharing this with others who might be able to help.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us in this fight for Maggie’s life. ♥️
With gratitude,
Barbara & Brodie
