Help Us Save Macchiato

My sweet dachshund puppy, Macchiato, is only 10 months old — still just a baby — yet he’s already endured more than most dogs face in a lifetime.

Mac was diagnosed with liver issues and hepatic microvascular disease (HMVD), which is where so many of these complications are stemming from. In the past month alone, he has suffered 3 seizures and required 3 emergency hospital visits. Most recently, we spent 9 long hours at Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital after he suddenly couldn’t urinate and began vomiting all his food and medication. The doctors now suspect gallstones, even though his X-rays were clear, and he’ll need to return to his internist for further testing and treatment.

Macchiato is my heart — my baby, my shadow, my constant source of joy and comfort. He has the sweetest soul and the most resilient little spirit. The thought of losing him, not because of his medical condition but because of financial limitations, absolutely devastates me.

Unfortunately, the cost of his care is overwhelming:

• Emergency visits (3 so far): $2,000–$5,000 each

• Specialist / internist consults: $300–$600 each

• Advanced imaging (ultrasound, MRI, CT): $1,000–$3,000 per test

• Bloodwork, urine testing, and monitoring: $500–$1,500

• Ongoing medications & supportive care: about $300 per month

Altogether, his upcoming care is expected to cost $7,500–$10,000 more on top of what has already been spent.
