Beloved Shipibo Maestra, Luzmila Needs Our Help.

Laying in her bed, surrounded by her family, Maestra Luzmila Mori, a Shipibo healer that has worked tirelessly for decades, practicing the traditional medicine of her people, is fighting for her life.

She is struggling to keep her wry smile and good humor while her strength drains from her body after days or internal hemorrhaging.

Healing For This Healer

Some of you may have been touched by this woman's compassion and wisdom, bowing your head before her song and feeling the power of her sound and presence.

Or perhaps you are connected to someone whose life has been transformed through this woman's courageous and enduring efforts, someone that came home from their pilgrimage a little lighter, a little brighter.

Maybe you are neither, but you are able to imagine a woman that has spent more than 50 years in the service of a healing spirit that her people have carried on their backs from the dawn of time.

We Can Give Back

Thousands of people have passed in front of this woman and received profound relief from countless ills.

Westerners have come to her for decades and broken addictions, beaten depression, and found hope amidst the desperation and monotony of their modern lives.

Yet this champion of Good lies bleeding to death in her bed because her family cannot afford the basic, life saving medical interventions that would be so easily available to many of us.

Ironic Isn't it?

Such is the plight of the Shipibo-Conibo, a nation caught in the crosshairs of modernity, neither able to turn back to their traditional ways, as their forest-homelands are decimated, nor fully integrate into a society that has shuttered its doors to their participation.

The work of preventing extinction of these lands and these people is a long fight.

Vast swathes of the Amazon have been laid to waste as mining and logging operations hungrily suck resources from the land.

Shipibo men and women organize to preserve what land is left.

They are advocating for themselves and demanding their government provide reparations in the form of access to the public benefits created from the destruction of their land.

We Can Help This Woman Now.

The very humble contribution we are hoping to make to Luzmila's family can save her life.

By creating this fund we can get Luzmila to a hospital. We can stop the bleeding, we can get her a prognosis and we can give her comfort. We can help her share her gift for years to come.

Please donate what you can and forward this to every person you suspect might have a sympathetic ear.
