Save Luna: Donate for Her Recovery

Hey everyone, you may or may not know me, but my name is Lodi and I am trying to raise money for my cat named Luna.

Luna is 13 years old, and I've had her since she was 5 months old. Last year in June, she was diagnosed with feline diabetes. Thankfully, I have always been a very observant pet parent and was able to catch it early enough that she didn't have to go on injectable insulin. She has been on a liquid insulin since then, but recently, I noticed that she had a cough. Naturally, I decided I needed to take her to the vet. She got some x-rays done that revealed she had some inflammation in her lungs. Her vet gave her an antibiotic injection, which did not help with the cough, so her following course of action was to prescribe her a steroid medication that she was supposed to take for about a week and a half. Thankfully, the cough went away, but unfortunately, steroid medications tend to make pets become insulin resistant. About 5 days into the meds, I noticed my Luna was very lethargic. I contacted her vet to confirm that this may just be a side effect of the steroid meds. On Day 7, she didn't eat breakfast and barely ate any dinner. The following day, she didn’t eat at all—that's when I became very concerned. I was able to bring her into the vet's office, where a vet who doesn’t typically treat her was filling in for her regular vet and suggested that I put Luna down because her ketone levels were so high and she thought possibly what she saw in her lungs was cancer (the ER doctor has now confirmed it just seems to be asthma—NOT a cancerous mass). I thought about it that day and the following day, thinking it might be the best thing to do for her. Luna spent the weekend trying her best to still walk around, drink water, and use her litter box—all signs that she wasn’t a total lost cause. Today, I went in and discussed other options with her vet. She suggested hospitalization because there is no other way she can recover.

I am not the type of person who asks for help, but I am so desperate to save my baby. Myself, my loved ones, and some friends have managed to pool together the 5k needed for the deposit to begin treatment, but we still need help to gather the rest.

Luna is currently hospitalized at Animal Medical Center and is receiving fluids via IV, like potassium, to level out her ketones, and she's on a feeding tube to stabilize her liver since she stopped eating for 3 days.

*UPDATE*
The vets treating Luna have told me today that she isn’t necessarily looking better…the radiologist took a look at her xrays & she has some mineralization that isn’t clearing up so they don’t know if it’s pneumonia or chronic asthma & she is having trouble with her breathing, she will have to be put on oxygen…also her ketone levels don’t seem to be getting better, they will be increasing her insulin but they told me she will probably need to be hospitalized for 5-7 days due to the nature of all the conditions she’s having at once. This unfortunately will bring up the estimated total of her care & treatment to 20k as opposed to the initial 10k

If you can please find it in your heart to donate any amount, me and especially my Luna would be so grateful. In these situations, anything counts because it all adds up.

Thank you from the bottom of mine & Luna’s heart
