06/07/25 - On May 30th, Lucy had 14 teeth extracted- I have uploaded newer pictures from one of the 1st ones I took to one from this morning, last night I gave her a bath and we brushed her out. I am in talks with a local organization that might help her with getting spayed and have her mammary tumor removed, it’s a little too soon to know right now. I am hopeful. I thank everyone for the help they provided that got us this far.
4/15/25 Update - Lucy is doing much better, she is standing up and wagging her tail, some of the funds donated paid for an ultrasound of her bladder and I am thrilled to say there are no tumors, just a really bad UTI (she had e-coil in her urine) she has been on an antibiotic for almost a week and the change is amazing! I have applied for a grant to try for funding to help with her teeth removal, to be spayed and have the mammary tumors removed, our Vet in Indianola has really helped out and we would like to continue with using her. She believes the next step should be her teeth, so we need to raise more funds, if 25 people would donate 20 dollars and with the money still remaining in the fund we could get that done. Please help Lucy! 4/6/25 Update - We took Lucy outside today, poor thing was so scared, I don’t think she has ever been outside, we had to go back inside . We have transitioned mostly to soft dog food and she eats it like crazy 4/4/25 Updates - Got a Call today from ARL Animal Welfare, they are reporting this breeder to the Authorities, She also headed me in the direction of some organizations that may help with funding our GoFundMe, and we are also waiting on the estimate from the vet. Sitting on pins & needles! Lucy likes to gaze at me like she is in love, poor baby has never known such good care! 4/3/25 Update - Lucy is getting stronger by the day, and we have been feeding her meat baby food, we went from using a medication syringe to her getting up out of bed and walking to the plate to eat, she recognizes our voices and wags her tail, she is a fighter!
On 3/36/25 -Please help Lucy. She is a puppy mill momma that my mom and I rescued last Wednesday. We also took on a second momma that we named Lola, but unfortunately, when we took them to the vet the next day, we found out Lola had a huge tumor in her bladder and was more than likely in pain every time she went potty. So, at our vet's recommendation, we humanely had her put down so that she didn’t suffer any longer. The vet said Lucy stands a chance but needs medical attention. When we took on these pups, we did it with our hearts on our sleeves, not realizing what we were getting ourselves into. I have tried several organizations to seek help, and they either are full or have no money to help. Lucy needs to have an x-ray of her bladder, as the vet said she had a urinary tract infection, and something is in there but she isn’t sure what. We are hoping that there is just sediment in her bladder from lack of water or bad water. Then she needs to be spayed, as she has mammary tumors. At this point, we have no reason to believe they are cancerous and will get better with her being spayed. The majority of Lucy’s teeth are rotten; she may need to have them all pulled. She came to us dehydrated and hungry, and we have fed her water and thinned out baby food all weekend from a medicine syringe. However, by Sunday, she was licking straight baby food off my hand. There may be additional care needed, but we are unsure at this time. Our vet covered the cost of putting Lola down for us, and if we can raise some money for Lucy, I am hoping that they will work with us to get Lucy the care she needs. Since I have no idea how much this will cost, any funds left I will ask GoFundMe to divide and return to the donors. Please help this momma have some quality of life. At 7 years old, she could have some joyful years. If you are wondering, I have reported this backyard breeder through our vet, in hopes we can get him shut down. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and if you feel more comfortable donating directly to the vet, it is Indianola Vet Clinic, Indianola, Iowa - thank you.
