Save Luca: Urgent Care for His Heart

Meet Luca (Rocky)! A two-year-old terrier mix rescued from being tied up and neglected in the woods behind a local business in Delaware.

Following his discovery by a compassionate pet owner, Luca underwent a thorough cleaning and veterinary examination. His foster mother provided care, nutrition, and attention, nursing him back to health.

Unfortunately, an initial adoption attempt proved unsuccessful, resulting in more neglect and emaciation. Thankfully the foster mom was notified and Luca was removed from the home.

Luca then went on to stay with our neighbor. Sadly their current dog was not accepting him. We have since welcomed Luca into our home, introducing him to our pack. Finally it seemed like things were starting to look up for Luca.

A recent more thorough veterinary visit revealed that there was more bad news in store for this little guy. Luca suffers from a severe case of untreated heart-worms, resulting in congestive heart failure. To determine the optimal treatment strategy, we are seeking the expertise of a cardiologist recommended by Red Lion Veterinary Hospital.

The estimated cost of the cardiologist visit at Blue Pearl (Christiana) is $1,314.75, with additional treatment costs at Red Lion Animal Hospital totaling $1,104. Our primary objective is to cover the expense of the cardiologist consultation plus the gofundme fees for now, enabling us to develop an effective treatment plan.

I have reached out to local shelters to seek financial help for Luca. However, this is not promised funding and CHF does not wait. There is a group of us that would love to give Luca a fighting chance, but the cost exceeds what we are all able to cover.

We would like to make an educated decision with the help of the veterinarians and do what is BEST for Luca. The results will help us decide if we will move forward with a treatment plan, or end his suffering all together. We are all praying for the first option to be successful.
