Save Lorneville is fundraising to assist with the legal and associated costs required to continue the fight against the City of Saint John municipal rezoning and redesignation of 1600 acres to allow for the expansion of the Spruce Lake Industrial Park for Heavy Industrial use a mere 150m from residential properties.
The proposed expansion will destroy 100s of acres of mature forests, including one of the last remaining old growth forests in New Brunswick; several watercourses; hundreds of acres of much needed wetlands; and an ancient bouncy bog--a true environmental disaster, all in the name of economic progress.
Specific legal costs include a Judicial Review regarding the unfair process the City employed in their endeavours to steamroll this proposal.
In Canada, a judicial review is a court process where a judge examines a decision made by a government administrative body, like a tribunal or agency, to ensure it was lawful, fair, and reasonable, not an appeal on the merits of the decision itself. If the court finds the original decision was invalid, unreasonable, or made outside the body's legal authority, the judge can issue orders to have the decision overturned, the matter sent back for reconsideration by a different official, or to prohibit the government body from acting unlawfully.
Associated costs include, but are not limited to: subject matter experts/specialists/scientists we may need to hire, any required testing, social media campaigns/videos, signage, etc.
We can't thank you enough for your support!
