We are reaching out to you on behalf of our good friend, Lorenzo.
We first met Lorenzo as a 10 yr old student in my first classroom. He is now 22 and has been recently diagnosed with an eye disease (keratoconus) in both eyes, which ultimately leads to blindness. A cross-linking surgery is needed immediately so he does not lose complete vision in the right eye. Unfortunately, this surgery is not covered by insurance and the surgery cannot be completed without full payment up-front. The doctors cannot give a clear answer as to when it will be too late for the right eye. It is clear that without intervention soon, he will no longer be able to see.
Lorenzo and his family are working and saving for the cross-linking procedure, but urgently need our help now.
Additionally, his left eye is not a candidate for the cross-linking procedure. He will need to receive a cornea transplant (which will still leave him severely visually-impaired). Fortunately, insurance will help cover the transplant costs.
As you can imagine, this is a very scary ordeal for such a young person to have to face. Lorenzo is struggling to stay positive with the very real possibility of going blind without intervention. Lorenzo is a respectful and sweet young man with so much potential.
He currently works at a car upholstery shop, he wants to pursue a degree in accounting, is strongly interested in politics, and loves the Raiders. Your support for Lorenzo and his future would be greatly appreciated!
