Oliver was rescued from a code red situation. He was immediate risk for euthanasia because he has a broken leg and kennel cough. With the help of many generous friends, family members, co-workers and strangers-turned-friends, we are almost at our goal of covering the cost of his leg surgery, initial vetting and adoption fee!
I don't know why humans fall in love with certain animals. I happened upon Oliver a week and a half ago before I bed. I was scrolling through a list of animals listed as at risk for euthanasia in a shelter near Dallas. This little rat terrier mix tugged at my heartstrings, and I woke up thinking about ways to rescue him. You see, Oliver has a broken leg and now an upper respiratory infection, which has led to him getting passed up by many who would have otherwise considered him as an ideal pet.
Breakdown Of Costs
$1,400-$1,500 for orthopedic surgery. This estimate was given by Veterinary Surgical Solutions in Austin, who will be doing the surgery next week. I will update this post whe we have an exact date set. The vet reviewed the two x-rays provided by the shelter and based his estimate off of the x-rays.
$314 for initial vet intake and splinting of his leg as well as medications necessary. Oliver was treated on 10/29 at the Emergency Animal Hospital in Austin. His leg was splinted and he was also examined by the vet. This cost includes the antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and pain medicine he is now on.
$25 for adoption fee from the City of Fort Worth Animal Shelter.
High End Total:
Part of these costs ($500) will be funded by me through Care Credit. I will also be donating all profits from my eBay store to Oliver's recovery.
Any funding received over the requested amount will be set aside for future medical care. The amount may be increased after Oliver's initial vet and surgeon visit. I will update this section as I incur unexpected costs relating to his care. I am covering the costs myself for basics needed (food, crate, bowls, etc).
With Hurricane Harvey hitting Houston and many rescues being strapped for cash, there just aren't the resources available to help bring new dogs into local rescues. This is why I have created this fundraiser, so we can help save this dog together.
Thank you for considering helping me mend this little dog. He deserves a chance.
(Please leave your address if you'd like a handwritten thank you note and some photos of Oliver!)
