Save Linda's House

Donation protected
My name is A.J. Winkelspecht. My mother's name was Linda Robinson. She died this Mother's Day. She has had health problems for most of her life. Many years of smoking left her with emphysema, and earlier this year she ended up with pneumonia after I had it myself for about a month. Her treatment involved massive doses of steroids which may have helped her pneumonia but she ended up with diabetes so bad that it began to affect her vision. We eventually got her blood sugar under control with medication but her vision problems never fully recovered. It just broke my heart so see her sitting up in bed surrounded by all the books that she couldn't read anymore.

Things got much worse when one day my mother began coughing up blood. She had a mass in her lung and a biopsy showed that it was cancer. We tried to remain hopeful that it might be treatable, but then a PET scan showed that it was stage 4 cancer that had spread to many parts of her body. We still tried to remain hopeful but two days later she started coughing up blood again and was having trouble breathing. I didn't know how bad it was until I tried to help her get to the door so that my sister-in-law could drive her to the hospital. When her feet stopped moving altogether I had to sit her down right there on the floor in the middle of the hallway. I called 911 but the paramedics couldn't do anything for her. I could only watch helplessly as they used up all the epinephrine and oxygen they brought with them before they had to give up on her.

I've had autism spectrum disorder my whole life but I wasn't diagnosed until I was almost 45 years old. My ASD has gotten in the way of a lot of things for me. I don't have any income. I've never lived on my own. I lived with my mother right up until the day she died. I was on the title of the property with her and now I have to worry about how to pay for the rest of the mortgage, tax expenses, utilities, groceries, and other basic necessities without any income. I don't drive, and finding a place within walking distance that is willing to hire someone with a developmental disorder like mine won't be easy, especially with so many people already out of work due to the coronavirus.

I'm sick with grief and I've never been so scared in my life. Please help me get out from under this.
