Save Leslie's Vision

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Fatima from Victoria Australia. I am fundraising for my first cousin Leslie.

Leslie lives in the Philippines where medical bills are above and beyond the standard earning capacity and most things that are covered by Medicare here in Australia is charged at full price in the Philippines. Your donation, no matter how small will help.

Leslie is in urgent need of medical attention to save her vision. Early diagnosis and immediate management is essential to avoid vision and life-threatening complications. We are aiming to get her into hospital by the end of October 2021 using the funds raised here.

She is a mother to three kids and her youngest is only 2 months old. She was diagnosed just a few weeks after giving birth to her 3rd child with Cavernous Dural Anteriovenous Fistula (DAVF).

The funds will go towards many different tests, hospital bills, treatments and procedures. Below is the full medical diagnosis and recommended immediate treatments.

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity!

Diagnosis:
A Cerebral Catheter Angiography was recently done and showed the following results:
- There is a cavernous dural anteriovenous fistula (DAVF) at the right carvenous sinus.

- The DAVF is supplied by the branches of the riht internal maxillary artery.

- The drainage of the DAVF is through the right carvernous sinus, then mainly into the superior ophthalmic vein, then into the facian vein. There is also drainage from the right cavernous into the sphenopalatine venous sinus.

- There is no angiographically visible cortical venous reflux

Conclusion:
Right cavernous dural anteriovenous fistula Borden Type 1

Treatment/Operations:
Minimally Invasive Endovascular Embolization — Typically sufficient to cure the majority of DAVFs.

During this procedure, we pass a catheter through the groin up into the arteries in the brain that lead to the DAVF and inject liquid embolic agents such as NBCA, glue or Onyx into these arteries. This injection shuts off that artery and reduces the flow of blood through the DAVF.

Microsurgical Resection
Reserved for DAVFs that cannot be closed with endovascular embolization. During microsurgical resection, we perform a craniotomy and using the microscope isolate the DAVF from the tissues around the brain or spinal cord.
