Save Leonay Golf Course

Dear Members, Neighbours and Guests of the Club,

I preface this letter with the fact that this is a difficult time for everyone, and your club will be the last thing on your mind, but I would like to explain our situation and what we are doing to survive.

As many people would be aware, on Sunday the 22nd March, the Club industry was informed that it must close its doors as of midday the following day. The decision made to do this is completely understandable but has had the following effect on our Club:

1.       Out of 33 staff, 23 staff were stood down on Monday with a further 5 staff on Tuesday. We are currently operating on a skeleton crew of staff on reduced wages.

2.       The Club was doing very well after most of our refurbishments were completed in December 2019 with strong growth being seen in all revenue areas. Overnight we lost over 90% of our revenue.

3.       The Club has been struggling for many years, and we were finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and a strong future for the club and golf course. Overnight this has turned into a monumental fight to survive.

To be blunt, without significant financial assistance the clubs cash reserves at this stage will run out by mid May 2020. This will result in the Club being placed into administration with all decisions on the Club and Golf Course future being taken out of member and, the local community’s hands.

We need help to survive, and I know this is a lot to ask currently when there are so many other individuals, families and community groups in need. The Board and Management of the club are doing everything we can at present to put in place measures to give us the best chance of survival.

Our two main priorities at present are the safety and well-being of our staff as well as the survival of the Club. There is no crystal ball and we do not know how long this will last, but our battle plan at present is to make it through a 6-month period and have survived.

To that end we will be exploring all strategies to do this, the first of which is setting up this go fund me page for the club.

If you would like to support the club, in turn saving the Golf course for future enjoyment, please help if you can.

Lastly, I appreciate you taking the time to read this letter. I wish you and your family all the best during this difficult time. Please be assured that the Board and I are doing everything possible to insure the survival of the Club.

Yours Sincerely
