Our Leo cat was shot and needs an amputation!

Leo was missing for 4 days and finally came home on Sunday evening starving and injured. One of his back legs was basically hanging (clearly broken). I’m actually surprised he was able to find his way home.

We went to the vet where they did an X-ray, and he was shot. The bullet is still in his hip. His leg needs to be amputated, which we can’t afford at this moment, so we are trying to figure that out. The other option is to put him to sleep, but we are doing our best to avoid that.

So I post this as a warning for all cat owners in our neighborhood. Someone nearby is shooting cats. I truly hope that it isn’t someone in our neighborhood, but who knows.

To whoever did this, please know that you hurt a family member. And even if it was a feral cat that you thought you were shooting, you would condemn them to a horrible and painful death. Please no comments that we should have kept him inside. I do know that’s best, and we’ve tried. He manages to sneak out and prefers being outside for a lot of the day.
