Save Leia: From Streets to Health
Donation protected
Hey everyone! My name is Emma and I am starting this fund to raise money for this beautiful pitty, Leia.
A little backstory on Leia: She was found in Texas after being bred, her puppies were sold, and then she was dumped on the streets of Houston. The people that found her couldn’t keep her but took her off the street until they could find a home for her. After effort, they couldn’t find a sustainable home for her and then turned to shelters. Shelters rejected Leia because of the breed, and their only option was to turn to kill shelters. That’s where I came in. A friend of a friend reposted their story of the family’s last efforts to find Leia a home. I saw the post and reached out, which is when I found out they were located in Texas. I packed up my things and drove 20 hours to Texas. Once I got there and met her and saw how sweet she was, I honestly wished that I could keep her for myself, but I knew that wasn’t a likely probability as my current dog I’ve had my whole life is dog aggressive. The goal was to find her a loving home, which I was able to find for her yesterday. She is such a playful girl and the sweetest thing. We think she’s about two, but she definitely still has that puppy energy.
After looking closely at her, she does have a bunch of cuts and scrapes, as well as hotspot patches and what we think are fleas under her skin, as she is very itchy. I gave her an oatmeal bath when I got her home to hopefully soothe her skin and help with the itching. Her new owner and I have had some long talks about how she needs to go to the vet and we’ve discussed how we would cover the fees. The vet is $350 for just an examination and check-up, not including meds. As she was bred and dumped on the streets, we’re guessing she doesn’t have vaccinations and is also going to need medications to take care of her fleas and other underlying health issues she might have. We’re asking for some support in helping her; anything helps get this puppy back to good health. I’m so thankful to have been able to go and get her from Texas and save her from being sent to a kill shelter, and that I found her a loving home here in North Carolina.
Thank y’all for your support
