The Latin program at Walter Payton College Prep, one of the last public Latin programs in the state, is in serious jeopardy. Amid district-wide budget cuts, many teachers are being cut to part time or completely fired by CPS officials, and Latin is first on the chopping block.

Thousands of students’ lives have been transformed by this program over the years, many of whom have gone on to major in Latin, Classics, Philosophy, or Linguistics at top universities around the world, inspired by what they have learned. More than this, Latin, and the Classics more broadly, are the basis of our speech, the root of our culture, and the heritage of our Democracy.

We are a group of over 800 current students, alumni, parents, and more attempting the impossible: raising enough money to keep this program alive.

If Walter Payton refuses to accept this donation for any reason, an email will be sent to every donor with the email attatched to their gofund me account so that all donations can be completely refunded.
