Save Lakewood Gulch: Protect Our Trees, Wildlife & Community
Donation protected

Lakewood Gulch, a historic creek with trees dating back to 1878, is a vital habitat for countless wildlife and plant species. Flowing from Green Mountain to the South Platte River, it provides food, shelter, and a safe space for animals to thrive and humans to enjoy. But now, this beautiful natural habitat, which is only 300 feet downstream from open space, is under threat.
The city has proposed an erosion and flood control plan that involves clear-cutting the well-established trees along the creek to allow heavy machinery to access the creek bed and install riprap along the banks. Natural science geomorphology experts warn that this approach will not only devastate the ecosystem but will also increase erosion and flooding risks in the long run.
We’re fighting back and need your help! Our group of five landowners, including three single women (one of whom is a senior on a fixed income), is standing up to the city to protect these trees, wildlife and this land that we own. We’re pushing for a second opinion from experts in Stream Restoration and demanding a solution that keeps the trees intact and protects the greater community from flooding.
An attorney has been hired, and legal fees are quickly adding up. That’s why we’re asking for your support. Every donation will go directly toward covering the costs of our fight to save Lakewood Gulch and preserve this natural habitat for future generations.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference! Together, we can protect Lakewood Gulch, the wildlife that depends on it, and the well-being of the surrounding community.
Thank you for standing with us! We appreciate all donations and shares!
