URGENT APPEAL TO FRIENDS OF LAKE WILLOUGHBY!
Help us save the viewshed - Vermont's beloved Lake Willoughby, the State's deepest, is a designated National Natural Landmark, recognized for its dramatic fjord-like setting and crystal clear waters. Lake Willoughby's remarkable viewsheds are seriously threatened because Industrial Tower & Wireless, a privately-owned Massachusetts-based telecommunications tower company has just obtained approval from the Vermont Public Utilities Commission to build and operate a grotesque 140-foot tall lattice radio tower on Frog Hollow Lane, only 200 feet from the lakeshore. The 140-foot tall industrial tower will include five radio antennas which will rise another 13 feet, for a total tower height of 153 feet above ground level.
The proposed tower will soar twice as high as the surrounding tree canopy. The tower will be an eyesore, degrading pristine views of the lakeshore while you are recreating on the lake or enjoying the views from your nearby properties.
Besides ruining your magnificent views of the lake and the surrounding mountains, this tower will significantly lower the property values of properties located within view of the tower or in close proximity.
What can you do to protect Lake Willoughby? A group of local residents has been fighting hard against this proposed tower for more than two years. Despite our tremendous efforts, the Vermont Public Utilities Commission has ruled against us, and has authorized the tower. Our only hope is to appeal this bad decision to the Vermont Supreme Court. We have retained a skilled attorney and professionals to handle the appeal before the Vermont Supreme Court. But we need to raise funds to pay for the appeal. That's where you can help us save Lake Willoughby!
Protect the lake's natural viewshed from unnecessary industrialized intrusion and donate to help Westmore residents appeal the decision.
We have already raised enough funding to get the appeal in the Vermont Supreme Court started. But we must fully fund the legal fund in order to succeed. We desperately need you to contribute to this critical battle.
We know that you love Lake Willoughby for its unspoiled lake and mountain views. You escape to Lake Willoughby to get away from industrialization. While cell towers are necessary, they need to be appropriately located. Sticking one where it will pierce high above the tree canopy right next to the wondrous Lake Willoughby shorefront and despoil everyone's view would be a real tragedy.
