At La Belle Femme, we have been helping women, often for the very first time, into their correctly fitted bra, and our mission is to educate and empower women.
And in Jamaica, we are frequently the only option for our clients.
Sadly we have had to close our doors but we hope, really hope we can re-open, with your help. So please read on.
We are in great peril as a business and we want you to know where your donations will go.
We have acquired a lot of debt while keeping La Belle Femme afloat. We need to pay some of that down, so we can then start placing orders for product with our suppliers beacause we are basically trying to "sell from an empty wagon" and that is very hard, very stressful for us and very disappointing for all of our clients.
It all started during COVID, when we were hit with what became some very major setbacks.
We had been in business 10 years at that time, and 2020 was supposed to be a growth year. We had preordered lovely seasonal items from one of our wonderful brands, much of which shipped in late 2019 and early 2020. Then COVID hit and kept coming.
And there were, as we all remember, many days when we couldn't be open and many restrictions for two and a half years. Our sales kept spiraling down, and our ability to pay the outstanding invoices also kept spiraling down.
And then our ability to buy the wonderful bras and panties became more and more challenging. We started disappointing our loyal clients because we, La Belle Femme, the company they could always depend on, suddenly didn't have their size in stock.
Meanwhile, expenses did not go down, and they all had to be paid. And so we slipped further and further into debt while we tried to maintain the business and support our clients.
In 2024, we thought there was an investment about to pay off which would save the business but, sadly, that did not come to fruition
Then we approached a lending institution, and that has now been dragging on for six months, and the debt load continues to increase.
And then there was Melissa, the category 5 hurricane. We were fortunate that La Belle Femme was not physically damaged but her impact has affected ALL of Jamaica.
In very short order, La Belle Femme will be no more.
We need your help. We want to be there for our clients, new and old.
Any donation will help, but if everyone who reads this were to donate about the cost of a bra ($15,000 JMD or $90 USD), we will survive and be able to continue our business.
I know it's a big ask, but we NEED your help. Please note: it says we are in Los Angeles. That is because to do a Gofundme you must have a US bank account. We are located in Kingston, Jamaica
