On Sunday, August 25, while sitting at our local Dog Park, my service animal of seven years, Kylo, while sitting next to me, was attacked by a big dog that was off leash. Kylo is only 10 lbs and did what he could to avoid the much bigger dog but He suffered some serious puncture wounds on his neck. I was hoping the damage wouldn’t be so severe, but after the swelling started to go down, the wound not healing, And his appetite being nonexistent, I realized he needed immediate veterinary attention. Unfortunately, being disabled, I’m not able to afford the $2000 doctors bill. Neither is the party responsible. They've admitted fault but have done nothing to take responsibility for their dogs actions. The proper Authorities have been notified because as I shared my story at our park several other dog owners had altercations with these people. Hopefully the dogs will be able to find a better home with proper training and more responsible dog owners.
I’m hoping that my Dog Park community who has seen what a good dog Kylo is will be able to help us out during this dire situation. Kylo is the friendliest dog and often would sit on peoples laps who needed his healing care. He’s a completely passive dog and his loving nature is a gift to everyone who has ever met him.
Kylo has been an obedient and loyal partner since I adopted him when he was just 3 months old from the animal shelter. He has been by my side for some of the toughest times of my life. His service to me as a PTSD service animal has been life saving. This is a really unfortunate event and I hope he is able to pull through OK.
The amount I’m asking for will cover the surgery and potential follow-up visits. Anything extra that is raised from this is going to be donated to the clinic that I’m treating him at. They were really patient and understanding with me and didn’t mind a grown man crying in their waiting room.
