Hi, my name is Kristy, and I’ve been a dog groomer in Oakland Park, FL for over 30 years.
When I moved to Florida in the early ’90s, I never imagined I’d build a lifelong career doing what I love most—caring for dogs. My brother first suggested grooming because I had always loved animals and knew so much about different breeds. Not long after, a shop owner in Wilton Manors took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew. With a lot of determination, some help from family, and more passion than resources, I opened my own shop in 1994. It was tough in the beginning—just me, no employees, starting from scratch—but I poured my heart into every dog I touched.
I’ve been at my current location since 2000, and over the years, it has become so much more than a workplace. It’s where I’ve groomed puppies into seniors, cared for multiple generations of pets, and built relationships with people who have become like family. Their dogs are my dogs. Many of my clients have recently told me how important I am to them, how they couldn’t imagine taking their pets anywhere else. Hearing that has been incredibly touching… and honestly, it keeps me going.
But right now, I’m facing the hardest moment of my life and career.
Since August 2024, long, drawn-out city construction has surrounded my shop—blocked roads, no parking, endless detours. It has devastated my walk-in traffic and made it nearly impossible for clients to reach me. Despite working two jobs and doing everything I possibly can, my business has taken a drastic hit. I’m now at risk of being evicted from the shop that has been my home for 25 years.
I’m heartbroken even writing this. Grooming isn’t just my job—it’s my purpose. I don’t have a family of my own; these animals are my family. Losing my shop would not only impact my livelihood, but it would also break my spirit and force countless clients to lose the groomer they’ve trusted for decades. I’m terrified of losing everything I’ve built.
I’m humbly asking for help to raise $15,000 as soon as possible, so I can stay in my shop, catch up on the costs of the construction crisis, and continue caring for the animals who mean the world to me. Every dollar, every share, and every kind word truly makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me during the most critical moment my business has ever faced. I’m beyond grateful.
