Save Kitties From Being Evicted!

Tax deductible
PAW Warriors and Misfit Acres, Inc, a 501c3 non-profit established in 2011, runs a very busy rescue that benefits the community in both Pasco and Hernando counties.   We take  in the most sick and injured and hospice type cats, and currently house 140 cats on the rescue grounds.   We have also helped over 4,000 cats get spayed/neutered and provide humane education for schools, scouts, and home owner associations.

The president of this non-profit, Tracie Steger, is trained and educated as a veterinary technician, which allows for immediate care and evaluation of these street cats that come in need...usually with the most critical of conditions.  Upon evaluation, the cats are taken to appropriate vets for further treatment as needed.

The property that PAW Warriors and Misfit Acres, Inc. sits on was originally owned by Miss Flo for 40 years.  Ms. Steger moved to the property in 2014 to help care for Miss Flo and to continue the mission of the cat sanctuary.  Miss Flo deeded one quadrant of her property to Ms. Steger to move a mobile home here so the cats could have a care taker 24/7.

Miss Flo was going to will the rest of property officially to the non-profit, but passed away before she did.  That was 3 years ago.  We have been waiting for property to go through probate proceedings and foreclosure, so we could have option to purchase the property.
Miss Flo owed only $23,000. We figured we'd be able to purchase the full property associated with sanctuary in that price range.

In the intervening years, since Miss Flo's death, Ms. Steger and her team of volunteers have continued to care for the cats and provide them with a safe and stable place to live. They have continued to support the community when a call comes in about abandoned kittens or another injured feral that needs helps or when another community cat needs vaccinations and spay/neuter assistance.

Unfortunately, the majority of the rescue -- the kabana, campground,  safety zone, part of the courtyard,  and Flo's old mobile home -- are all on the property that was in probate.

The bank had recently sent a text that the property has exited probate.
They want $60,000!!!... not the amount of the loan that was in probate! Otherwise eviction begins in 2 weeks.

When we called to address THIS, the bank was very unsympathetic.

They have stated they will be bulldozing the mobile home.  They will be clearing everything off.  They even have threatened to have animal control come and take any cats that cross property lines. All we want to do is buy this property and continue the mission that Miss Flo started so many years ago.

The bank just came back in the last few days and said we had until September 30th to come up with $50,000 (now extended to 1 November). They are still threatening to have animal control evict all of the cats and to keep some of the portable buildings that donors have provided to the sanctuary in recent years.

We have not found a way to come up with that much cash yet.

We don't want to have to move anything but we will if that means saving the cats' lives.

We just want to buy the property...and continue the only stable life our residents have known.

We have made endless calls .

Our nonprofit has only two years of audited tax returns.
We do not have established credit, so getting a bank loan is not feasible.

Buying property does not qualify for microloans and most grants.

We need to raise funds.
We believe some people we have talked to would be more than willing to help, but are waiting for "others to step up".

We believe help will have to come from different sources and from the community as a whole.

If word gets out, maybe  we can find someone willing to loan, willing to buy and lease to us,  or willing to give.   Maybe the bank can give more time.

We do amazing work here and get to see miracles every day.

We were meant to be on the property where we are.  We just have to figure a way to spark some compassion in the eyes of the bank to work with us.

We are in the fight for our life to save the rescue...and right now, there doesn't seem to be a light at end of tunnel.  Please help us get word out so  the miracles can continue.
