Hello world! I am Kali (formally black cat, a community kitty). I now have a real name because I am going to become an inside kitty with 4 new very strange family members and a mommy and daddy which is so wonderful, but my backstory is very sad.

I am a former community kitty. This very kind young man was feeding me and my brothers. He allowed us to come and go on his back porch, he left food out, he even left his back door open a little bit too. We would go inside his house and walk around too sometimes. Life was pretty great!

During the 4th of July fireworks weekend he brought us all inside to keep us safe. He thought … Perfect timing to schedule my surgery to be fixed. I am a bit more scaredy than my brothers. He and this “crazy lady” put me in a carrier. He brought me to a place and had me spayed. However, they found out I was pregnant too. I lost my babies.

Upon returning home from surgery, I was limping. He had me kept in a small area with cameras watching me. He contacted the place that spayed me, they thought the limping was due to the rabies vaccine. They said to give it more time. I continued to limp for several days. Angry and in pain. That crazy lady kept coming over and checking on me. Several visits to vet office and attempted X-Rays. They confirmed:

We have exhausted every resource we know throughout the state of Florida. We cannot find a low-cost anything to assist us in the situation. We were not seeking “free” medical attention, just resources, help, a vet that’s not going to break us, and quickly (bc she is suffering). We were not expecting an amputation surgery to be so expensive (over $5000).

We are narrowing it down to a few surgeons/hospitals at this point who can take on her case on as early as this week to do the surgery. Surgical repair requiring pins and plate repair. Approximately 6,900-7,800 (1st estimate).

Or the other option would be a complete leg amputation, which would be approximately $5-5,700. (estimate #1).

I am going to do my best to gather two more estimates Monday and hopefully Tuesday).

The young man that is brought Kali in to be spayed had nothing but the best intentions. He is not able to continue caring for Kali indoors after her surgery. She is a bit feral. She will require extra time, extreme patience, and medical care. She will need to remain as an indoor kitty.

Todd and I will continue caring for her after her procedure. She will eventually meet our 4 cats and will adapt to our tribe and become part of our family. It will be a very slow process.

I am putting together this fundraiser as we have a kitty that goes to a specialty vet.

We are approximately $20k invested in our cat Ace (still paying off a $5,500 debt to Care Credit). We are aware how costly it can be having animals with medical conditions.

We are beyond grateful as long as we are saving Kali’s life!! Euthanasia is not an option.

We will never understand how the leg was broken. Ultimately in the end, that doesn’t matter, she deserves a chance of a good life. Todd and I are willing to turn our house upside down to make that happen lol.

Timing is everything right now because the longer we wait, the chances we take of her leg becoming calcified, never mind the pain and fear she is in!

Blue Pearl can get her on the schedule as early as this week for repair or amputation. I have an appointment at another vet office Monday morning for a consultation and I can get pricing on repair or amputation as well.

Please, let’s not let this baby suffer any longer. Whatever is decided

UPDATE: 7/23/25

Surgery was scheduled for today. But due to some emergencies that came in, her surgery is now postponed until tomorrow (7/24). The doctor/surgeon feels confident with repair of the fracture with pins. They will keep her overnight after the surgery to monitor her.

Surgery scheduled 7/24 @ 10am.

NOTE: The veterinarian has been PAID IN FULL by Todd and I for the surgical repair as well as her first vet appointment for her pre-surgical bloodwork, anesthesia w/ her new x-rays, and her leg splint. $3,740.48. We estimate there will be a follow up visit (or two) and praying no complications. The fundraiser goal has been decreased significantly!

We greatly appreciate any and all donations going towards this cause. If anybody knows my husband, he would never put himself out there like this.
