FRONTLINE COVID-19 NURSE/MOM LOSING HOME FRIDAY
As I write this I am not even sure to whom it will reach, but I know God does. I am reaching out for urgent help for our daughter, a Frontline Covid-19 Nurse named Jordan Grindstaff and our grand-daughter, McCoy. I will try to keep this as short and simple as possible. In 2017, McCoy lost her home when it burned. Jordan and McCoy moved in with us for almost a year,
Although McCoy never complained about losing anything, it became a daily question to her Mom about when can they get their own house. Jordan is a nurse, an LPN. While looking at a townhouse which normally rents for $1100+ a month, the owner offered to owner-finance the home which meant the monthly payment would only be $850 a month after a $7000 down payment. The best part, she was able to close and get the keys on McCoy’s 6th birthday, November 15, 2018. A framed pic of the new house with the key inside was given to her in front of the house on her birthday right after she had asked for the millionth time “When can we get a house?” She missed having a home.
2020 has been a very difficult time for Jordan both personally, financially and professionally. She worked in a nursing home which had remained Covid-19 free until they allowed an employee to work while running a fever and knowing she had family at home who had already tested positive. She was waiting on her results. The employee received word that her test results were also positive while at work. Jordan and other staff members were upset that her elderly patients had been unnecessarily exposed to Covid-19. It did result in an outbreak among both patients and staff. Jordan had the heartbreaking job of using her phone to allow family members to say good-bye to their dying loved ones. Jordan did report the facility to the State of TN. In September, she was called in by the administration’s office and was terminated. She was told the reason written on her Termination Notice was not the actual reason she was terminated. Jordan responded “is it because I reported you to the State?” They did not respond to her question, but she knew it was, she recorded this conversation.
Because of her daily exposure to Covid-19, we all decided McCoy would be better off if my husband and I kept her when Jordan worked. Her normal childcare help all had small children in their homes and this was during the shut-down. We have been in Nashville for 2 years while my husband receives medical care at Vanderbilt. This meant Jordan was driving a ten hour round trip 2-3 times a week to get McCoy to us. If she had one day off, she would be here five hours after she got off, spend a few hours with her little girl then head straight back to work. McCoy was determined to be strong but her world was upside down again, she missed her Mommy! During her last trip to Nashville in August to pick up McCoy, she was sitting still on the interstate due to a wreck ahead of her, only an hour from being home, when a large Electric Company truck hit her car from behind. This resulted in the back of the vehicle being smashed in and all of their belongings covered in shattered glass. Jordan and McCoy were okay, the vehicle was a total loss.
Jordan has been hired by the State of Tennessee as a nurse, she will start her new job tomorrow, November 12. But this won’t help her urgent need. God provided Jordan and McCoy a safe, loving home. But with the loss of her job and vehicle, she is going to lose her home on Friday. Her landlord has been good to work with her, but he has bills and needs his money now. He told her the day he showed the town house to her that he had a feeling that morning before showing it. He talked to his wife and felt like God wanted him to help her and his wife agreed with him to offer the owner financing.
She is NOT asking for a hand-out. She does need a LOAN to save their home. In order for her landlord/lien holder to agree to continue the owner financing, she has to pay him $4633 by Friday. This includes the three months rent she is behind on since not working, plus HOA fees, property taxes and insurance in advance. She has the documents with the breakdown. If this is not paid Friday, he is giving her five days to vacate the property or she will be removed. This means she will also lose the $7000 down payment and the equity she has built the last 2 years.
McCoy’s birthday is Sunday, she will be 8 years old and again will lose her home right after her birthday. The house fire was the week after her birthday party in 2017, she lost everything she had gotten at her party, and never complained. But she loves her home, she was so grateful when she finally had a home again, it rips my heart out to see her have to face that again. The picture of her praying was her first full day in their new home. Her Mom sent her upstairs to start getting ready for bed. When she started to go up to help McCoy, this is where she found her, on her knees, saying her prayers. She was so thankful to finally have a home again.
I wish we could help, but medical expenses and living in another city has drained us. I know, regardless of what happens, it is God’s plan for them, but I also felt a need to write this and at least reach out for help. Once Jordan starts back to work tomorrow, she will be able to stay current and pay this loan back plus interest.
Please, if you can help, every little bit gets her closer. Even sharing this would be a great help. Thank you, have a blessed day!
