On April 28, 2026, a little dachshund mix was found wandering near Central Avenue in Hollister, CA.

She was microchipped. Someone had loved her once — but no one came.

Hollister Police Animal Care & Services took her in and named her Jolene. For weeks she showed up at community events in her yellow "Adopt Me" bandana, looking up at everyone with those big brown eyes, tail wagging, still willing to trust. She never stopped hoping.

Then Jolene got sick.

She began vomiting and the Hollister Police & Animal Services team rushed her immediately to San Benito Veterinary Center — partners in this work who believe in these animals as much as we do, and who give Babe's Fund a discount because of it. Parvo test: negative. But radiographs revealed a dangerous intestinal blockage. Her foster mom Olivia noticed something in her vomit — blanket material. Jolene had eaten her blankie. 

Not a corner. Not a nibble. THE WHOLE BLANKIE.

Without emergency surgery, she would not survive. San Benito Veterinary Center performed a gastroenterotomy and lavage — $2,129 to $2,211 — and saved her life. Jolene pulled through like the absolute warrior she is. The blankie did not survive. We have said our goodbyes to the beloved blankie and Jolene was recovering beautifully. And then something extraordinary happened.

Our friend Danna from Portola Valley saw Jolene's face.

And she came immediately.

Danna knows this kind of love — and this kind of loss. She had a beloved Weiner dog named Eddie who was taken by a coyote in Portola Valley. If you know, you know. That kind of grief doesn't leave you. It became a wound in Danna, and in an entire community that mourned right alongside her. The kind of heart wound that never fully heals.

And then she saw Jolene.

They say your beloved dog sends you the next one. We believe that with everything we have. Eddie saw this little blankie-eating, Adopt Me bandana-wearing, never-stop-hoping dachshund in Hollister — and sent Danna straight to her.

Jolene is now Chocho Sun. Beautiful butterfly in Japanese.  Chocho for short.

This morning, Chocho Sun moved to Portola Valley. Quite a leap from our beloved little Hollister. We are so full of joy that we can barely stand it.
