A lot of folks know me online as Gneisha, and probably more people know Jenga. Jenga is my 8-year old troublemaker Siberian Husky. She has had a really rough time this year, and honestly , so have I.
Starting in January 2025, we noticed Jenga had some stiffness after laying down for awhile. Initially thought to be arthritis, we narrowed it down to her knee and a partial tear of her cranial cruciate ligament, similar to the ACL in human knees. We planned to schedule TPLO surgery when, 3 days after she had x-rays on her knee, Jenga needed to have an emergency gastrotomy for a blockage in her intestine. She came through surgery wonderfully, but ended up having months of recurring GI issues due to severe gastritis caused by the toy that caused the blockage. This included vomiting blood, additional overnight at the emergency vet, two follow-up ultrasounds, lots of blood work, prescription food, and an appointment with an internal specialist. As you can imagine, this was all very expensive but our pet insurance covered 70% of it. After everything, Jenga was finally given a clean bill of health with only minor ongoing GI issues that are very easy to manage. We breathed a sigh of relief and planned to take care of her knee early in 2026 since she was managing very well with some pain meds.
Unfortunately, Jenga had other plans. Two weeks later, she was running in the backyard, tripped, and completely tore the CCL. We had her seen that day, new x-rays were taken the following Monday, and Jenga had TPLO surgery to correct her knee on 11/24/25. Again, our pet insurance covered 70% but our portion of everything from her GI issues plus the knee surgery is really beginning to squeeze our finances. The pet insurance doesn't cover prescription food, which I was paying about $200+ a month for, nor does it cover rehabilitation. We are three weeks post-surgery and Jenga is doing very well, but I would really like to get her into rehab in the new year. I have reached out to a local vet for pricing, but I'm estimating about $100 per session, plus a consult appointment. I currently owe about $4000 on our CareCredit card. I'm going to be honest, I can't swing much more without catching up on our already existing expenses. I didn't want to ask for outside help, but I also want her to be able to run, jump, and play like she is used to. Jenga may be 8, but she looks and acts like a 2-year-old. I love my girl and I want her to have the best quality of life going forward, including her mobility. If you reached this far, thank you so much. I know it was a lot.
